Look At My Features!
Everyone knows that elephants are big with wrinkly skin, but there is more cool features to them than this. Elephants are mammals. There are only two elephant species, so because of that, I found out there is an African elephant and an a Asian elephant. African elephant females weigh up to ten - thousand pounds, and grow up to nine feet tall while African males weigh up to fourteen - thousand pounds and grow to thirteen feet tall. Because of this, they are the largest land mammals on earth! Elephants are huge! Elephant babies also weigh up to two - hundred fifty pounds. Elephants have long and flexible trunks that can suck up two gallons of water in one time! An elephant's long and flexible trunks that they also use for communication. Asian elephant females grow eight feet tall, and Asian males are ten feet tall and eleven-thousand pounds. Elephants have thick, gray or brown skin. African elephants have larger ears so they can flap/wave them around to cool themselves down since they live in a hotter climate. Because of this, I know that Asian elephants have smaller ears. Asian elephants females might not even have any tusks at all! Elephants use tusks for fighting and/or for digging. Elephants have tusks so I know that the two tusks that elephants have are actually two incisors. Also, elephants are the only known mammals that have knee joints, but can’t jump! Elephants have wrinkles that trap moisture to cool themselves. Because of that, I know that African elephants have more wrinkles than Asian elephants. African elephants have two “fingers” at the end of their trunk. Because of this, I found out that Asian elephants have a more round like effect to the end of their trunk. Asian elephants also have big, round bumps on the top of their head, they also have a back with a slight arch. Elephants can live to be 60-70 years old. Because of this fact, I know that elephants have a long childhood. To go with this, new born elephants can’t walk too well. This is just the tip of the iceberg for elephants, this was just about appearance!
